Gardens

Map

The gardens are to the front and back of Nutbourne Place, separated by the old wooden footbridge that links them.

North of the house the grounds comprise two fields, the back field and side field. A footpath runs through the latter and is the starting point for many excellent walks.

Front Garden

Mainly laid to lawn and surrounded by fine old trees – including a copper beech, chestnut and lime – the front garden is over two principal levels, separated by a ha-ha.

Beautiful panoramic views of the South Downs hover above the two levels, the first originally a croquet lawn and the second still occasionally used for lawn tennis.

Guests staying in The Annexe may walk over the drive and/or path beside the front garden to reach The Rising Sun public house a couple of hundred yards away in the village.

Back Garden

Close to The Annexe the back garden comprises two walled gardens, the first containing the owner’s swimming pool area (off limits for guests) and the second an old orchard which guests are welcome to use at any reasonable time of day.
